Description

Inspired by Paul's In search of the click track post, this project is attempting to use the beat-tracking and section analysis aspects of the EchoNest API to model tempo variation and evolution. In order to simplify the problem, the detected sections into thirds (roughly beginning/middle/end).  For example, an analysis of Curtis Mayfield's music indicates that there was much more variation in tempo in the first section of the songs than in the middle and ending sections.

.

The goal is to be able to create descriptors for remixing audio tracks with different tempo evolution patterns extracted by analyzing the audio of other artists.  For example, we could 'Mayfieldize' Britney Spears.

This shows what happens when you don't play to a click. It takes a while for bands to 'settle into a groove'
